  1. Now that is easy, because it\u2019s so simple<\/strong>.<\/li>
  2. You don\u2019t have a lot of envy<\/strong>, you don\u2019t have a lot of resentment<\/strong>, you don\u2019t overspend your income<\/strong>, you stay cheerful in spite of your troubles<\/strong>. You deal with reliable people<\/strong> and you do what you\u2019re supposed to do<\/strong>. And all these simple rules work so well to make your life better. And they\u2019re so trite.<\/li>
  3. BECKY QUICK: How old were you when you figured this out? CHARLIE MUNGER: About seven. I could tell that some of my older people were a little bonkers. I\u2019ve always been able to recognize that other people were a little bonkers<\/strong>. And it helped me because there\u2019s so much irrationality in the world<\/strong>. And I\u2019ve been thinking about it for a long time, its causes and its preventions<\/strong>, and so forth, that I– sure it\u2019s helped me.<\/li>
  4. And — staying cheerful– with– because it\u2019s a wise thing to do. Is that so hard? And can you be cheerful when you\u2019re absolutely mired in deep hatred and resentment? Of course you can\u2019t. So why would you take it on?<\/strong><\/li>
  5. BECKY QUICK: Is there any advice you would go back and give your 20-year-old self? CHARLIE MUNGER: I have not– many of my children have worked out well. And I\u2019ve had very little to do with it. I think they come into the world, to a certain extent, pre-made. And you just sit there and watch. I don\u2019t think they\u2019re– it\u2019s been simply amazing to me as a parent to note know much is sort of preordained. The shy baby is the shy adult. The booming, obnoxious, domineering baby is the booming, domineering, obnoxious adult. I\u2019ve never found a way to fix that. I can be cheerful about it, but I can\u2019t fix it. I can change my reaction, but I can\u2019t change the outcome.<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
